Revolution turned ugly Part 2

This is the very place where Andress Bonifacio was killed. It is now a beautiful Shrine developed by the local government. At a glance, there was no traces of that dark part of Bonifacio's history. The once revered as revolutionary hero by the people for Philippine independence,turned to be a potential treat to the new government and was treated as villain. He was hunted and murdered. But, time, once more, put him in the pedestal as "hero".

Andress Bonifacio who is considered as an important figure in Philippine revolution must have died with a heavy heart. He has invested his blood sweat and tears for the love of his motherland and to free Filipinos from its tyrant Spanish invaders. Through out his time in fighting the Spaniards, he never compromised with them even once.

He may acted arrogant as described once by Aguinaldo. Andress has an attitude problem, impulsive, and less educated, but I see him as a simple person with a simple mind unlike his other elite comrades in arms who were educated and are from prominent families. It was a pity. They needed each other, they could have been more effective in fighting the enemy together.

In some instance, Bonifacio has agreed to the result of the election held in Cavite to form the Republic of the Philippines, He conceded to the fact that Aguinaldo was elected President. He should have been the vice President since he received the second highest number of vote. He never complained about this. The election proceeded and he was voted to be the Director of interior, yet this was questioned by some of his comrades saying the position should be given to a lawyer. This angered Bonifacio and proclaimed the assembly to be dissolved and the resolution to be annulled.

Yes, he committed mistakes that lead to his misfortune, his being simple, not cunning but straight forwardly, he is more of a warrior than a politician, he uses emotion more than logic.

When he was visited by Aguinaldo's men in his camp in Indang, he even received them cordially and never suspected any hostility. The following day his camp was attacked by the same supposedly comrades whom he welcomed earlier. In that event, he restrained his men not to fight back, but yet an act of hostility and carnage followed. his brother Ciriacco was killed, Procopio was beaten senselessly, he himself was shot in the arm and was almost stabbed in the neck, while his wife was raped.

Life is not fair for him, he could have been given more respect, as founder of the great Katipunan. But fear of division from among revolutionaries that would lead to the down fall of the newly established Republic leads his former comrades in arms in eliminating him.

His family and wife should have been given more due respect and be taken as prisoners yet they were treated unfairly.

Those who abused their given authority, sent by Aguinaldo to serve the arrest of Bonifacio should not go unpunished... but maybe.... this is what justice in that era is all about.

Coffee Alamid

Coffee from Alamid droppings!!! Anyone?

Alamid or wild Civet (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus) is a family of mongoose, it looks like a cat, lived in a forest and is carnivorous, but this creature loves to eat coffee cherries, the beans inside passes though its digestive tract and comes out with other fecal matters.

Mountain dwellers gathers these undigested coffee beans and washed them, sundry, roast for 7 hours, remove its shell and eventually grind them into powder which they call Coffee Alamid, Kupi luak as they call it in Indonesia or kafe laku in East Timur.



Coffee from Alamid droppings is rare, in fact it is a world's rarest brew. I only knew about it recently after 5 years staying in the coffee producing province of Cavite. No wonder why some considered it as one of the country's best keep secret.

Its taste and aroma is far better than coffee prepared in the usual way and that explains why it is so expensive. a kilo would cost you more or less US$500.
