The Principal Part 2

NGIS, in terms of facilities has an edge over other schools, all rooms have airconditioning and with standard sizes. Library is big enough for the population of the school, toilets are available in every building , area for playground is spacious.

On Academic programs, Mr. Guy is proud to say that, They could be at par with other big schools since they could even join in local, regional and even national academic contest and won some place.

Their co-curricular activities are being implemented at least 2 hrs per week, sports club was organized, NGIS is promoting the indigeneous games such as patentero, sipa and others.

He recited the NGIS vision to promote moral and academic excellence in pursuit of wholistic development of man building of ideal family and responsible stewardship of creation. He then elaborated that teacher and student relationship in the campus is likened to a parent and child relationship. Despite that, they alway keep non-sectarian policy and respect every religion and belief that exist.

Just this year, high school students climbed Pico de Loro to appreciate the granduer of its mountain the beauty of the rainforest, the different creatures that lived in the wild. This experience teaches awareness that there are other creatures to love and to care.

Mr. Guy proudly mentioned that NGIS is a "school of Heart" and students are envisioned to become responsible individuals with the heart and this is the guiding principle why the "culture of giving" is emphasized and practiced especially every christmas that instead of just giving gift among themselves, students go out in the community to share a heart of gift to poor children in the city. He explained further that even though students are intellectually competent, but without heart, future is not assured to be hopeful.

Mr. Guy reminded me that NGIS is a WIFI zone school, NGIS is giving importance to IT (Information Technology) for student's development.

Japanese or half Japanese, Koreans,French, Italian, Thai and Filipinos, comprises the population of the school, 15% of parents parents are foreigner.

NGIS is offering Japanese and French languages, this is to broaden the experience of every students to be exposed to a global family of man by the students mingling with each other having students from other countries.

English is being encourage despite the difficulty since Tagalog is pretty dominant. Regional accent is also acceptable.

As of this time, their are 206 students, 18 teachers and 3 administrative staff.

Summer classes are being offered with lessons of painting, piano, reading enhancement, math enhancement and martial arts as the favorite choices by the students.

When asked about the future of NGIS, Mr Guy is quick to say that he want NGIS to be the premier school in Trece Martires City.

Fees are minimal, Tuition Fees at P12,000 pesos, miscellaneous somewhere around P3,000 to P3,500, books are about P2,000 to 3,000, and is being paid by parents at cost with no additional profit for the school.

He is inviting everyone to visit the blogsite below to see updates on school activities.

The principal is essential to the growth and developement of the teachers which in turn responsible for the growth and development of the students which in turn become the future leaders of the country. A study was conducted on why the teachers are not doing well in terms of developing their skills in teaching, the result of study leads to the conclusion that the failure of the principal is the very reason behind this sad fact.

Mr. Guy who is originally from Mindanao, is now a real Treceneo because of his contribution to the community as the principal, as an active sports organizer, as an active community service project organizer and as officer of the group of educators.

The Principal part 1

Mario Maestrado Guy, the principal of New Generation International School is a very energetic and sportive person. Unlike other educators who seemed to be nerd looking, his kind is the opposite. He earned his black belt in Wonwha-do martial arts during his college days. At present, he is a cycling enthusiast. He is not just an ordinary cyclist but an organizer and President of a cycling club... By the way, He is also a swimmer, he spent time swimming and teaching scientific approach of the sport. He shares Bruce lee's philosophy that a person should be like water which can adapt any given situation. Recently, he is into mountain climbing, he firmly believes that education and training is not limited only for intellectual enhancement but for physical development as well, as the saying goes....healthy mind goes with a healthy body.

He was born in Ginggoog City in November 15, 1964. His father is half chinese but both grand parents from his father's side are full blooded chinese from Amoy City in China. His grandparents migrated to Philippines to explore a better economic opportunity and upon their arrival in the country, they started trading coffee and copra.

Mr. Guy could never forget a story once told by his father that during the war her grandma took his father in haste out of the crib to hide from the coming Japapese army, but later realized that what she brought instead was a pillow while the baby was left in a crib.

Mr. Guy became the OIC-Principal of NGIS in June 1, 2008 he was the second principal in the history of NGIS.

In his college days, he joined as a volunteer social worker, teaching college students and out of school youths about the Divine Principle, He was active by then organizing Collegiate Association For the Research of Principle (CARP). It was during those period where he started learning martial arts that leads him to actively teach the art and its philosophy among his students.

He graduated in accountancy in 1985 in liceo de Cagayan University.

He became the Head of Research and Development Section of Ideal World Corporation and later was given the position as the Chief Finance Officer (CFO) in the same company owing to his profession as accounting graduate.

Though he has no background as educator in an elementary school, he was able to adjust easily in the many challenging situations inside the campus.

His little difficulty is more on curriculum planning and management, which is overseeing teachers accomplished their task in accordance with school curriculum (program)... and implementing documents required such as permits, periodic reports to Department of Education, and other legal documents for a school to operate.

Supervising teachers is not that difficult since most of them are obedient. For parents, there are some minor difficulty especially with parents whose children are still in NKP (Nursery, kinder, preparatory). Parents are over concern about their children that they sometimes get so involved and resulted to frictions with teachers. Children that don’t do well in their family in terms of cooperating in household chores do better in school, so parents learn from teachers how to handle children better.

But on higher grader, most parent give complete trust and confidence with their teachers in handling their children.

He had more difficulty with high school students, where sometimes students fight over jealousy. He had to deal with the growing children in their puberty age, their experience of attraction to opposite sex that Love triangle sometimes exist that results to anxiety among peers, teachers and even parents.

To be continued....

Pico de Loro

Simply means parrot's bill, that's where this beautiful mountain got its name by the spaniards in 1500s since it looks like the Beak of the parrot. I was there in April and May in 2008 with friends and some kids.

Pictures paints a thousand words that is why I'm putting a lot of pictures in this limited space.

Climbing is easier for young ones, but not for "young once" though it is only 664 meters high, You need to prepare for at least 2 weeks of daily excercise to sustain yourself in a 3 hours walk from jump off point to the peak with a rest of about 15 to 30 minutes in Camp 1, and on the second rest point they call alibangbang park.

I don't have to described how to go there, just read my posting about Boracay of Cavite its with the same route and just on the same area. You may contact me through email (bernarddcforever@gmail.com) I would be glad to explain the details of what you want to know.

You may visit sites that share details about the climb: www.waypoints.ph, www.geocities.com/yosemite/3712/gpicodeloro.html
